WHAT I’VE BEEN READING: The lost art of listening by Michael Nichols and Marta Straus

“The lost art of listening”, by Michael Nichols and Marta Straus (2021)

This book, now in its third edition, provides a practical and entertaining guide to improve our relationships by learning to listen. It includes four main parts: The yearning to be understood; The real reasons people don’t listen; Getting through to each other; and Listening in context. I think my favourite chapter is How to Listen to People It’s Impossible to Agree With! This book is really about the essential link between listening and connecting with others, whether those connections occur in intimate relationships, at work, or with complete strangers. The book is easy to read, including many examples and stories to illustrate the main points, and also some questions for reflection and activities to improve your listening skills.
